Music Director Steven Huang has led the NewWSO since 2021. He began his career as Music Director of the Bach Society Orchestra at Harvard University and recently concluded a 16-year tenure as Director of Orchestras at Ohio University. Steven has earned accolades from Fulbright Scholars, Ohio Music Educators Association and Columbus Roundtable Awards, founded International Conducting Masterclasses, Inc., and guest conducted with orchestras around the world, including the Brasov Philharmonic in Romania and the Ohio Valley Symphony. He is also Music Director of the Yale Medical Symphony and the Norwalk Youth Concert Orchestra. He is a certified music teacher and teaches in Kent, CT.

Founded in 2012, the NewWSO is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to making symphonic music an integral part of community life for players and concert-goers of all ages and backgrounds. What began as a small ensemble has flourished into a vibrant community orchestra. Renowned for its diverse repertoire and innovative programming, NewWSO continues to enrich the cultural landscape with inclusive, high-quality performances accessible to all. 

Our vision is to create a vibrant and inclusive musical community where musicians of all backgrounds and skill levels can come together to share their passion for classical music. Through engaging performances, educational outreach, and a commitment to artistic excellence, we aim to inspire a love of orchestral music across Westchester County and beyond. We strive to make classical music accessible to all while fostering a sense of community and collaboration among our members and audiences alike. 

The NewWSO is a non-audition community orchestra that brings together musicians from diverse musical training and backgrounds. Whether renewing a passion for music or with moderate to advanced skills, we welcome all. Radical inclusivity is central to our mission, creating a space for musicians of all levels to share their love for orchestral music.

At NewWSO, we play a diverse repertoire that includes works from the classical, romantic, and contemporary periods.
